Islamabad (PR) – In all, 29 terrorist attacks took place across Pakistan during April 2018 including 3 suicide blasts in Balochistan. These attacks killed 44 people – compared to 37 in previous month – and inflicted injuries on 98 others. Among those killed in terrorist attacks in April were 22 civilians, 16 personnel of security and law enforcement agencies, and 6 militants; those injured included 47 civilians, and 51 security personnel. Significant casualties among security and law enforcement personnel were contributed by 18 terrorist attacks (62 percent of the total attacks) that exclusively targeted them.
These statistics were revealed in Pak Institute for Peace Studies’ (PIPS) monthly security report for April 2018.
The report further said that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), local Taliban groups, and other militant groups with similar objectives such as ISIS and Hizbul Ahrar carried out 19 attacks, which killed 31 people and injured 92 others. Baloch nationalist insurgents were involved in 6 attacks that claimed 7 lives. Four sectarian-related terrorist attacks killed 6 and injured 2 persons.
Balochistan faced highest number of attacks compared to any other region of Pakistan. Compared to 13 in March, as many as 15 terrorist attacks took place in the province, including 3 suicide attacks, which claimed 34 lives and injured another 39 people.
As many as 8 terrorist attacks took place in 2 agencies of FATA in April 2018, compared to 7 in previous month, which claimed 9 lives and injured 46 others.
Compared to 3 in the month before, a total of 6 terrorist attacks took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) including 5 in DI Khan alone. These attacks killed one army soldier and injured 13 others.
No terrorist attack was reported form Punjab, Sindh or any other region of the country.
