2019: Violence and Other Faith-based Incidence

Besides religious and sectarian minorities, places of religious significance have also been regularly targeted in militant extremist across the country over the last 15 years. In May 2019, at least eight people were killed in a suicide bombing outside the shrine of the one of the country’s most revered Sufi shrines in the city of Lahore.  Pakistan has heavily invested in fighting terrorism and improving security in recent years and considerable gains are undoubtedly visible. Unfortunately, however, extremist groups are still able to launch deadly attacks. Militant extremists claimed the bombing.
